Salaries - explaining some points again

Thursday, 12 January 2012 10:32 Published in Politics
Picture from The New Paper

The Ministerial Salary Review Committee, which has submitted its recommendations to the government on changes to the pay structure, explains some points and clarifies some misperceptions about what it has recommended. The following was posted on its blog on 11 January.

Since the release of the Committee’s report on 4 Jan 2012, we have noticed that there are points in our Report that have been misunderstood or not clearly understood.

We have grouped them into questions and would like to refer the reader to the relevant sections of the Report for the answers and details. We hope that readers will read the sections for the explanation on why we made our recommendations, and what they comprise.

His legal distractions at an end, Anwar Ibrahim goes back to what he does best: politicking.

That the acquittal of Anwar Ibrahim, a Malaysian MP and the leader of the opposition, on 9th January on charges of committing sodomy came as a considerable surprise to many Malaysians is perhaps some indication of the degree of cynicism permeating Malaysian politics. Most, including Mr Anwar who has consistently maintained his innocence, expected the verdict to go against him, even though the prosecution’s case seemed riddled with inconsistencies and doubts.

A sad varied evening...

Thursday, 12 January 2012 01:55 Published in What Others Say

The following is a note posted by Minister of State, Tan Chuan Jin, on his Facebook page on 12 January.

I just got back home and my heart is very heavy.

Driving back, I heard the news that my old colleague had just passed away. He had gone jogging and his son found him unconscious on the kitchen floor. RIP TL.

The evening had started off well. Visited my residents at Blk 36. It was a good visit. Had pleasant chats with those who were in except for an aunty who was lying on her sofa watching TV...she shooed me away...Must have been a very good program :)
