Community and commenting guidelines at PublicHouse.sg

At PublicHouse.sg, we aim to carve out a unique spot in cyberspace for all to exchange their views, ideas, and commentary on current affairs. We fully encourage comments on our articles and stories as they often enhance the quality of discourse and bring breadth and depth to our discussions.

Everyone is welcome to voice his/her opinion regardless of ethnicity, religion, or ideology, as long as these opinions are respectful and constructive.

However, we have little time or patience for unbridled flame wars or hate-mongering. In the interest of cultivating a rational and participatory atmosphere, we’ve laid out several commenting guidelines for our readers to follow.

Make your point politely. We will not tolerate comments which indulge in personal attacks, threats, harassment, or any other forms of violent speech. If you have a point to make, you can make it politely. Attacks based on ethnicity or religion, or any other form of discrimination, will also be banned.

Watch your language. Words which you think are perfectly fine might be perceived as offensive to others. To avoid unnecessary squabbles, all comments should not include any widely recognised vulgarities or profanities.

Use only relevant links. Links in your comments to other web pages must be relevant to the discussion. Simply put, we have no interest in promoting your organisation or business' website in our comments if it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Instead, why not consider getting an ad space?

Turn off your caps lock. Seriously, just turn it off. You don’t want people to think you’re like this guy.

Protect your own privacy. Do not include any personal information in the comments, such as your personal email address or phone number.

Respect intellectual property. The body of your comments must not violate the intellectual properties of others. If you are quoting or lifting information from other sources, be sure to include the necessary citations and attributions.

We reserve the discretion and the right not to approve comments which violate any of the above rules. Further, our decision to delete comments will be final and non-negotiable.

Happy commenting!
